Best honeymoon destinations
When it comes to choosing the best honeymoon destinations, it really depends on you.
Now, before we get started on this list of the best honeymoon destinations, I will tell you that I specialize in warm, tropical destinations.
That said, I did sprinkle in a few “non-beach” honeymoon destinations here too!
If you’re planning a honeymoon and feeling overwhelmed, I get it. Planning a wedding is crazy stressful, and trying to figure out a honeymoon on top of that? Yikes. That’s why I’m here to help.
I’m a Travel Blogger, but I’m also a certified Travel Agent specializing in honeymoons! I have over ten years of experience in the wedding industry.
I only take on a few clients per month but if you’re interested, feel free to contact me. Or, keep reading to learn more about the 20 best honeymoon destinations.
The best places in the world for honeymoons
Here are 20 of the best honeymoon destinations from all over the world.
1. Bora Bora
Bora Bora is a bucket-list destination for honeymooners and with good reason. Crystal-clear water, excellent snorkeling, beautiful mountains, and those fantastic overwater bungalows are just some of the reasons to honeymoon in Bora Bora.
Bora Bora is a dream honeymoon destination, and it’s more accessible than you may think! Tahiti is easy to access from the continental United States, especially from the West Coast.
From Tahiti, it’s just a quick flight to either Bora Bora or Moorea.
Where to stay in Bora Bora:
Check out the dreamy overwater bungalows at InterContinental Bora Bora Resort. You might also consider the nearby island of Moorea and the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa.
2. St. Lucia
The Caribbean gym of St. Lucia is more accessible from the mainland US than destinations like Hawaii, Bora Bora, or Fiji.
From black sand beaches, the dramatic Pitons, and reef diving sites, St, Lucia is a dream for adventurous honeymooners.
Where to stay in Lucia:
I recommend the Sandals Grande St. Lucian. I am a certified Sandals Travel Agent so contact me for more information if you’d like some help booking.
3. Kauai, Hawaii
When you think of honeymoons in Hawaii, you most likely think of Maui. Don’t worry, Maui is on this list, but Kauai is another Hawaiian island that shouldn’t be missed.
Kauai is arguably the most beautiful island in Hawaii. From the breathtaking Na Pali Coast to the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific” Waimea Canyon, Kauai is a dream for honeymooners who want to hike or spend time in the ocean.
Where to stay in Kauai:
Check out the 7 best resorts on Kauai for my recommendations. My favorite resort for honeymoons is Ko’a Kea Resort. You can find more favorites in the best honeymoon resorts in Hawaii.
4. Paris, France
You’ll find that most of this list of the best honeymoon destinations are for tropical beach honeymoons. As I specialize in tropical destinations, this might come as no surprise.
However, I had to throw in a few other destinations, and Paris makes the list. Paris is synonymous with romance. It has beautiful architecture, incredible food, and gorgeous art, making it a top honeymoon destination.
5. The Maldives
The remote Indian Ocean archipelago offers white-sand beaches, clear waters, and secluded resorts. If you’re looking for an exotic destination, the Maldives might be the perfect honeymoon destination for you.
The Maldives has the beautiful overwater bungalows that you’ll see sprinkled throughout this list. Who doesn’t want to honeymoon in an overwater bungalow?
Where to stay in the Maldives:
The Maldives has many amazing resorts for honeymoons. The Taj Exotica Resort and Spa is one of the best.
6. Papagayo Peninsula, Costa Rica
Costa Rica offers so much for such a small country. Because of this, I decided to focus on the Papagayo Peninsula for the best honeymoon destinations.
With easy access from the Liberia airport, this area of Costa Rica has everything from pristine beaches to rainforest adventures.
Where to stay in Costa Rica:
If you want to stay on the coast, check out the Andaz Costa Rica. The TabacĂłn Thermal Resort & Spa is a completely different option located at the base of the Arenal Volcano. It is a five-star carbon-neutral resort and offers a unique blend of nature, adventure, and relaxation
7. Aruba
Aruba is one of the best honeymoon destinations in the Caribbean as it’s located outside of the hurricane belt.
With an average temperature of 82 degrees year-round, the sunniest days in the Caribbean, and some of the best beaches in the world, Aruba is an obvious choice for the best honeymoon destinations.
Where to stay:
Check out the all-inclusive Barcelo Aruba.
8. Maui, Hawaii
I have so many blog posts about Maui honeymoons! You can check out the best honeymoon hotels in Maui or 50 things to do in Maui to get started.
Make sure to also check out what to pack for a Hawaii honeymoon.
Where to stay:
My favorite Maui resort for honeymoons is the Andaz Maui. Due to not being as “child-friendly”, it’s a great resort for honeymoons.
However, if you want a truly adults-only hotel, the Hotel Wailea is an excellent choice.
9. Los Cabos, Mexico
When most people consider a honeymoon in Mexico, they think of Cancun. There is nothing wrong with Cancun – I love Cancun – but I’d also recommend looking at Los Cabos.
Where to stay:
Los Cabos offers many All-Inclusive options. Check out the Riu Palace, an adults-only all-inclusive resort.
Make sure to check out what to pack for Cancun because that applies to Los Cabos as well. For a Cancun option, check out my review of the Hyatt Zilara Cancun.
10. Anguilla
Located in the Eastern Caribbean, Anguilla consists of one main small island snd several islets. Anguilla is one of the more expensive Caribbean islands, but as with anything else, you get what you pay for!
Crime rates in Anguilla are some of the lowest in the Caribbean, second only to St. Barts, which you’ll see later on the list.
Where to stay:
There’s not really a bad place to stay in Anguilla, but The Four Seasons Resort and Residences Anguilla is one of the best.
11. Bali, Indonesia
Bali is one of the most romantic honeymoon destinations. This exotic destination offers gorgeous scenery and a relatively low cost for paradise. The most expensive part? Getting there!
Indonesia is across the world from the continental U.S. but if you can swing the plane tickets, it’s a great destination.
Where to stay:
Fairmont Sanur Beach Bali is one of the best honeymoon resorts in Bali.
12. Panama City, Panama
Panama City is a clean city offering everything you could need. Just outside of the city you’ll find beautiful mountains, tropical rainforests and two coasts with gorgeous beaches.
Panama also offers hundreds of outlying islands.
Where to stay:
There are plenty of resorts to choose from in Panama City. I like The Waldorf Astoria Panama.
13. Santorini, Greece
The small island of Santorini is famous for whitewashed villas and incredible sunsets. If you’re looking for an Instagrammable honeymoon destination in Europe, Santorini is the perfect option.
Santorini offers beautiful red and black sand beaches. Adventurous couples can also hike and explore ancient civilizations.
Where to stay:
Santorini offers so many picture-perfect honeymoon resorts, Katikies Hotel is one of the most beautiful.
14. Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona is one of the most popular and romantic cities in Spain, and even in all of Europe. It is famous for its art, architecture, and incredible food.
If you’re considering a honeymoon in Europe, Barcelona is a great choice.
Where to stay:
Majestic Hotel and Spa Barcelona is a luxury hotel that is perfect for honeymoons.
15. Harbour Island, Bahamas
It’s not the easiest island in the Bahamas the access. However, the Pink Sand Beaches makes it all worthwhile.
Harbour Island lies just NorthWest of the more popular Eleuthera Island. Harbour Island is very safe, with virtually no crime, and the small island is easy to get around.
Where to stay:
You visit Harbour Island for the pink sand, so why not stay at Pink Sands Resort?
16. Hawaii Island, Hawaii
Yes, I have three Hawaiian islands on this list of the best honeymoon destinations. Hawaii is one of my specialty locations as a Travel Agent, and the Hawaii island is often overlooked.
The Big Island offers some of the best resorts on the beautiful Kohala Coast along with stunning black sand beaches and many microclimates. Hawaii Island is the most diverse of the Hawaiian Islands, making it a must-see.
Where to stay:
Check out the best resorts on the Big Island. My favorites for honeymoons are The Four Seasons Hualalai or the Fairmont Orchid. You can also check out The Best Luxury Resorts Big Island for more high-end options.
The Big Island is a beautiful destination often overlooked by honeymooners.
17. St. Barts
Short for Saint Barthélemy, this French overseas collectivity is the safest island in the Caribbean. It is known as a party place for the rich and famous and is one of the more upscale honeymoon destinations.
Where to stay:
The suites, bungalows, and villas at Le Sereno are stunning.
18. Belize
Located on the Eastern Coast of Central America, Belize is a small nation with dense jungles, beautiful beaches, ancient Mayan ruins, and a massive barrier reef.
Belize offers so much for such a small country and is a great place for honeymoons thanks to easy access from the US and Canada.
Where to stay:
19. Florida Keys, Florida
The Florida Keys stretch over 100 miles and contain 1000 islands. The most famous is Key West. The Keys offer the best snorkeling in Florida.
Like Hawaii, Key West requires no passport for US citizens and is easily accessible via the airport in Key West or Miami.
Where to stay:
Ocean Key Resort is one of the best honeymoon resorts in Key West.
20. Fiji
The coral reefs surround the islands that make up Fiji. This means Fiji is home to some of the best beaches on earth.
Fiji has many all-inclusive options and offers the overwater bungalows that honeymoon dreams are made of.
Where to stay:
If staying in an overwater bungalow is a bucket list item for you, stay at the Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay.
