15 Best Resorts in Maui for Families
Here are the best resorts in Maui for families. I know I talk about honeymoons a lot on the blog. In fact, I consider myself to specialize in Hawaii honeymoons. However, as a Hawaii Travel Agent, I book many families and extended families too!
This is a must-read if you’re planning a family vacation in Maui. You’ll find the best places to stay in Maui for families. Is Maui the best island for a family vacation? If you have the budget for it, yes! Maui is currently the most expensive island, but in my (Hawaii Travel Agent) opinion, it offers a lot for families!
Maui is not as crowded as the island of Oahu, but it also has more accommodations and offers a bit more than the island of Kauai and the Big Island. Not that I don’t love the other islands, because I do!
However, Maui is just the best of both worlds between plenty of accommodation options, a rain forest, Molokini Crater, palm trees, pristine beaches, the Road to Hana, upcountry Maui, horseback riding, and so much more.

DO I NEED A RENTAL CAR IN Maui?
When you plan a family vacation in Maui, getting a rental car is a must. Public transportation isn’t always reliable, and you’ll need a rental car to see some of the best scenic drives in Hawaii, such as the Road to Hana!
I recommend Discount Hawaii Car Rental. They have the best rates and free cancellation. You can pick up your car at any of the airports in Hawaii. You won’t pay until you pick up your vehicle; the cancellation is free.
If you want to find the best flights to Hawaii, I recommend signing up for free alerts with Scott’s Cheap Flights.

Here are the best resorts in Maui for families, listed in no particular order. However, I’ll tell you about a couple of my favorites when we get to them.
Fairmont Kea Lani
This upscale resort is considered one of the family-friendly resorts on the island. You can choose to stay in a two or 3-bedroom villa as a family. Fairmont Kea Lani also offers 1-bedroom suites available for smaller families.
Young children will love the kid-friendly pool. Older kids will get a thrill from the water slides. You will find yourself relaxing at one of the onsite restaurants. If you don’t want to dine onsite, some of the best restaurants in Maui are located in Wailea, very close to the Fairmont Kea Lani.
Of course, room service is available if you don’t feel like going anywhere at all.
You will have the best time taking pictures at this best resort in Maui for families. So many of them will be Instagrammable perfect too. No filter needed!

Now, let’s return to one of the best resorts in Maui for families, the Hyatt Regency Maui.
The amenities and services at this Maui resort are spread out on 40 acres of land. This is one of the best hotels near downtown Lahaina. All the air-conditioned rooms come complete with attached private lanais, and the entire resort was renovated in 2020.
The kids won’t want to leave the lava tube water slide or multiple swimming pools. You may prefer the infinity pool, which is reserved for couples. The whole family will have fun on the rope bridge!
You must check out the presentation about African black-footed penguins during your stay. It’s one of those educational activities you can sneak in without the kids noticing. Yes, there are penguins in Hawaii, and they are warm-weather and considered ohana (family) by the staff at the Hyatt.
The best resorts in Maui
Other fun adventures include stargazing from the rooftop or taking a wildlife tour. But, of course, you won’t want to miss the hula demonstrations or the lei-making classes either. You can even take a class to learn more about the Hawaiian language.
When you are hungry, there are five onsite restaurants to choose from. Everyone will be able to find the foods they want the most during this family vacation!
I recommend an ocean view to enjoy views of Molokai, Lanai, and humpback whales in the winter. However, if you don’t feel like paying a premium or no ocean views are available, you might catch a glimpse of the West Maui Mountains with a mountain view room.
Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa
The Sheraton Maui Resort is one of the best places to stay when you want incredible views of Black Rock. Most of the guest rooms offer ocean views. Each one is spacious and luxurious too. Your entire family will love all the amenities and services available to you.
One of the kid-friendly amenities is the lagoon pool. It is massive! You will also have access to a fitness room and spa.
This resort is located in one of the best places for snorkeling in Maui. Lots of sea turtles spend their time in the ocean water there. So, it can get really crowded during peak seasons. So, plan ahead if you dream of staying here!
Honua Kai Resort and Spa
You won’t need to walk far to reach the spectacular Ka’anapali North Beach while staying at the Honua Kai Resort. This is one of the best Maui family resorts and one of the resorts that I book the most for extended families and group trips.
This is one of the best kid-friendly hotels on the Valley Isle. There are plenty of outdoor activities for your family to enjoy, and the pristine beaches are just steps away.
A small family might fit in a studio or one bedroom. Do you have a larger family? You can choose two or 3-bedroom luxury suites or a garden villa for your stay though. Each room has a full kitchen, and grocery stores are nearby to get everything you need.
There is an onsite restaurant for those days you don’t want to cook. They even offer a special brunch on Sundays.
You won’t be bored during your stay at this luxury resort. The aquatic playgrounds are full of water adventures. There is a waterslide, five hot tubs, and waterfalls. You may want to relax at the full-service spa while the kids swim at the beach.
Away from the resort, you can take a helicopter ride, go ziplining, or head out on a hike. Submarine rides can be a unique experience for your family!
Honua Kai is the best of both worlds between a condo and a true resort because it’s both!
Montage Kapalua Bay
Choosing a room at Montage Kapalua Bay is never easy. You can choose from a spacious room, suite, or villa. I vote for the latter when you are traveling with large groups.
Relaxing days can be spent down at the beautiful beaches. It is also a short walk to the coastline if you follow the marked trails.
The spa offers both adult and kid-friendly spa treatments. So indulge a little and enjoy some time with your mini-me!
If you have time, check out the championship golf course at this Maui resort. The Plantation Course is one of the best golf courses in the United States. If you love golf, check out The 15 best golf courses in Maui.
There are two restaurants plus a bar and signature restaurant for those special meals. You will want to check them all out during your stay.
Marriott’s Maui Ocean Club
If you want to stay in a family-friendly resort directly on Ka’anapali Beach, the Marriott Maui Ocean Club is your best option. The large rooms come with either full kitchens or kitchenettes. You may even have a laundry area in your room. Talk about a bonus while on a family vacation!
Family-friendly activities can keep young children busy, especially when you spend time at Discovery Cove. But, of course, you won’t want to forget about the two pools. Each one has a pool bar serving up tasty drinks when you are all thirsty.
Ritz-Carlton Kapalua
This Ritz Carlton is one of the best Maui resorts. There are 54 acres you can explore if you want to take the time to walk around. Just keep in mind that this resort is much farther north than some of the other resorts in West Maui. Heads up, it can get a little windy up here!
All 466 rooms and suites are modern. They are filled with island decor and special touches. The six restaurants will have you savoring every bite of your meals, especially if you try authentic Hawaiian cuisine.
During the day, you can use the tennis courts or head out to participate in water sports. Whale watching is possible during the right time of the year. And snorkeling and hiking are possible at any time.
A free shuttle is available to take you to nearby areas. So, plan on shopping and relaxing on the nearby beaches during your stay.
Westin Ka’anapali Resort
The Westin Kaanapali Resort gives your family direct access to Ka’anapali Beach. It is also near the Ka’anapali Golf Resort and Whaler’s Village. Take advantage of the free shuttle service to all these locations during your stay.
You will want to head out to your private lanai every morning to enjoy the birds singing and the sunrise. As an added bonus, you will have stunning views of either the grounds or the ocean.
The six-split level pools will be a family favorite. The pools create 87,000 square feet of swimming fun. The problem will be agreeing on which one you use for the day. If everyone can’t agree, head down to one of the best white sand beaches in Maui.
Alone time is possible when you send the kids to the Westin Family Kids Club. It’s an excellent place for the kids to learn about Hawaiian culture and traditions through cultural activities. You may want to leave the kids at the club for a little longer to sneak a workout in at the fitness center or enjoy the wellness spa.
Meal time is always easy when you stay at this best family resort in Maui. There are five restaurants and bars. So, you can find everything from finger foods to fine dining. Don’t forget to attend this resort’s traditional luau.
Westin Maui Resort
The Westin Maui Resort and Spa is located on Kaanapali Beach on 12 acres of tropical paradise. This is a popular resort for families, and like many of the resorts on this list of the best resorts in Maui for families, it is located on Kaanapali Beach.
Wailea Beach Resort
Wailea Beach Resort is a great spot to enjoy a little downtime with the family. First, relax in your family-friendly hotel room. Then, sit out on the balcony or lanai, and check out the sunrise or sunset.
Head out to the pools and spend the day in a cabana. Or split parenting duties and take turns at the spa and championship golf course.
Mealtimes are simple when you dine at onsite restaurants. You can even order room services when you don’t feel like going out.
This hotel in Wailea will be one of the luxury hotels you will never forget.
By the way, don’t mix up Wailea Beach Resort or Grand Wailea with the Hotel Wailea, which is adults-only!
Ka’anapali Beach Hotel
The spacious rooms at this best resort in Maui for families offer an ocean feel. In addition, all the rooms at the Kaanapali Beach Hotel have been renovated recently. This means you will truly feel like you are at home throughout your stay.
Days at this prime location can be spent on land or in the water. Head out on a hike. Take a helicopter ride. Go zip lining. Learn how to surf or take a boat ride.
This is the perfect resort for taking hula lessons or learning how to make a lei. If you want one of the best resorts in Maui for families that is authentically Hawaiian, this is the place for you.
You will find a couple of restaurants at this Maui resort. Including the perfect place to grab a coffee in the mornings. Live music can be heard in at least one of the restaurants during the week.
The best part about this Maui resort is there are no mandatory resort fees. This is good news if you want to use your vacation money on other activities.
Four Seasons Resort Maui
The Four Seasons Maui can be found on Wailea Beach in south Maui. It is one of the best resorts for families on the Hawaiian Islands. This is an open-air resort. The kids’ club is available daily, and the entertainment is perfect for all ages too.
If a standard room can’t accommodate your family, enjoy a spacious suite in one of the best areas of Maui for a family vacation. There are plenty of daily activities, and unlike most of the resorts on this list, the Four Seasons Maui has no daily resort fee. Instead, everything is built into the cost you pay upfront.
Many people assume that because Four Seasons is so upscale, it’s not family-friendly, but the opposite is true. It’s one of the most family-friendly resorts in Maui if you have a healthy budget!
Most of the guest rooms offer ocean views. These rooms are the perfect place to sit back and relax after a busy day on the island of Maui. If you want lots of privacy, choose the Lokelani presidential 3-bedroom suite. It offers a private garden and lots of extra space.
If you plan your family vacation just right, you can see humpback whales out in the ocean. You can also venture into the water to swim, snorkel, and explore the underwater caves.
Oh, and you can truly relax in the pool area. Reserve a cabana, then sit there having a poolside mini-spa treatment. Then, the kids can venture out to go swimming on their own. If you do go for a swim, take advantage of the swim-up bar.
Grand Wailea Resort
The Grand Wailea Resort is a Waldorf Astoria Resort – the only one in Hawaii! As a Maui Travel Agent, I’m often asked if there are any Hilton properties on Maui, and while there are not, this does fall under the Hilton family of brands.
This is one of the best luxury resorts in Maui. There is a garden, waterfall, and koi pond to check out at this West Maui resort.
This is one of the best resorts in Maui for families, but don’t confuse it with the next-door Hotel Wailea, which is strictly for adults.
All those things are the perfect reason to escape your room. However, you may not want to leave your room, which is complete with a private terrace.
The lazy river is the best feature of this family-friendly resort in Maui. The nine swimming pools and four water slides are incredible too. This is one of the best places to check out caves and waterfalls at a resort. There is even a rope swing for the entire family to enjoy.
The kids will love collecting stamps for their Grand Passport. All they need to do is visit different locations throughout the property. That’s if you can pull them out of the game room!
Other fun activities include kayaking tours, scuba lessons, cultural tours, and beachside yoga. Photography sessions are also available if you want to have special memories of your family vacation.
You will find eight restaurants at this Maui resort. Most of them offer Keiki, or kids, menus. My favorite restaurant is Humuhumunukunukuapua’a. It serves Hawaiian-inspired dishes.
Napili Kai Beach Resort
One of the best resorts on the island is Napili Kai Beach Resort. All the plantation-style rooms are within 11 buildings. Full kitchens are available in some of the rooms. If this is a priority for your family vacation, let me know!
Nearby beaches are all within walking distance. This is good news if you all love to snorkel. Although, you may prefer to spend a little time swimming in one of the four family pools.
Andaz Maui
Andaz Maui is located on Mokapu Beach. This is a pet-friendly resort (but don’t pack your furry friends before you read this) with about 300 rooms and suites.
You can even reserve a villa for large families. The minibars have complimentary snacks and non-alcoholic drinks. If you choose a villa, you will have a full kitchen to use throughout your stay.
Although I love the Andaz (and book it often for couples and adults), I recommend this resort to families with all adults or older kids/teens. It does not have as many amenities and features for young children as the other resorts listed above.
The best resort in Maui for adult or teen groups
If you have an older group, this resort has four infinity pools, a gym, and a wellness center. Although, your days can be spent in the ocean instead, where you can kayak, paddleboard, canoe, or surf all day long.
This is one of the best Maui hotels when you want to go shopping. It is near The Shops at Wailea.
There are five restaurants at this resort. One is a poolside bar. This is perfect when everyone is hungry but doesn’t want to leave the pool area.
This is the best resort in Maui for families who want to be close to Hana Highway and the North Shore. The other resorts in the Wailea area are also in a central location. If you want to best spots to see whales, choose resorts on the west side of the island, like the Hyatt Regency Maui.
