The best resorts in Maui
Who hasn’t dreamed of a Maui vacation? Maui is the second-largest of the Hawaiian islands and is the second most popular tourist destination (after Oahu.)
Maui is the perfect destination for honeymooners, families, and anyone who loves beautiful white-sand beaches. If you’re looking for the best resorts in Maui, you’ll have plenty of options.
Maui is shaped somewhat like a lopsided figure 8. The two main resort areas are the Wailea/Makena/Kihei area in South Maui and the Ka’anapali/Lahaina area in West Maui.
You’ll need a car on Maui, if you don’t have one yet, I recommend Discount Hawaii Car Rentals for the best deals.
For this list of the best resorts in Maui, I have split it up into South Maui, West Maui, and Hana, which is on the far east side of the island. You’ve probably heard of Hana because of the famous Hana Highway.
The best place to stay on Maui
Maui is one of the best places to see whales in the winter and offers some of the best snorkeling in Hawaii. With diverse landscapes, top-rated golf courses, high-end resorts, and some of the best adventure activities around, Maui the perfect vacation destination.
I have free Maui itineraries to help you plan your vacation. Make sure to check out my 4-day Maui itinerary and my 7-day Maui itinerary.
Now, let’s get to the 10 best resorts in Maui. If you’re looking for the best 5-star resorts on Maui, I have a post about those too.
Wailea/Kihei/Makena area (South Maui)
1. Four Seasons Maui Resort at Wailea
No list of best resorts would be complete without mentioning the Four Seasons. The 5-star The Four Seasons Maui Resort at Wailea is no exception. Located in Wailea close to many other high-end resorts, the Four Seasons is perfect for honeymoons.
The Four Seasons shares a beach with the Grand Wailea (mentioned later), which is another beautiful resort. Check prices for your travel dates at the Four Seasons here.
2. Hotel Wailea
The Hotel Wailea is one of the highest-rated resorts on Maui. It is adults-only making it the perfect choice for a honeymoon. It is not located on the beach but has beautiful views. You can take a hotel shuttle, drive, or even walk down to Wailea Beach.
The Hotel Wailea is also an excellent spot for a destination wedding. I photographed a destination wedding at the hotel Molokini Lookout, and it was beautiful! Check the current Hotel Wailea pricing here or contact me for a quote.
3. Grand Wailea
Unlike the nearby adults-only hotel Wailea, the 4-star Grand Wailea is a great resort for families. It features a fun waterpark and shares a beach with the Four Seasons Resort. Contact me for a custom quote or check prices on Expedia here.
4. Fairmont Kea Lani
The Fairmont Kea Lani is another hotel in the beautiful Wailea area. This 4.5-star resort is all-suites and is excellent for families. It is located on Polo beach.
5. Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort
The Andaz Maui is a luxury resort set on 15 oceanfront acres. The four on-site restaurants offer fresh, local cuisine that is some of the best on the island.
If a high-end eco-friendly resort is essential to you, the Andaz Maui is a great option. The Andaz Maui is one of my top choices for honeymoon resorts in Hawaii, and there are often celebrity sightings at this trendy resort.
Although the Andaz Maui is not adults-only, it does not offer many amenities for children, so it is better or adults and teens than younger children. Check prices during your travel dates here.
Ka’anapali Area (West Maui)
6. Hyatt Regency Maui
The Hyatt Regency Maui resort and spa is located at the end of Ka’anapali Beach. Amenities include oceanfront golfing as well as a traditional luau. The Hyatt Regency is an excellent option for families.
7. Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa
The Sheraton Maui Resort and Spa is located on Ka’anapali Beach right in front of Black Rock. If you love snorkeling, this may be the resort for you!
Black Rock offers some of the best snorkeling on Maui. If you do love snorkeling, make sure to check out my snorkeling Molokini Crater review.

8. Marriot’s Maui Ocean Club
The Marriot’s Maui Ocean Club is located right in the heart of the 3-mile Ka’anapali Beach. The 3 towers are named after the main islands of Maui Nui (Molokai, Lanai, Maui.) The Marriot Ocean Club also has suites, which make it an excellent oceanfront option for families.
9. Ritz-Carlton Kapalua
Located in West Maui, the Ritz-Carton Kapalua is perfect for golfers and those who want the best of the best in a 5-star luxury resort.
The Ritz-Carlton Kapalua is more isolated than many resorts, making it perfect for those who want a quieter getaway.
Hana (East Maui)
10. Travaasa Hana
The 4-star Travaasa Hana resort is the only resort in Hana. It was voted to #1 boutique hotel in 2018 by Hawaii magazine.
If you’re looking to experience the “real Hawaii,” this is the perfect resort for you! The spa is highly rated, and this is one of the few resorts in Hawaii that offers an “all-inclusive” option that includes meals.
