LGBT Friendly Honeymoon Destinations
Planning a honeymoon is a lot of work, but it can be even more work if you’re not sure if all destinations will accept you and your partner. Fortunately, as a honeymoon travel agent, I am here today to share some of the LGBT friendly honeymoon destinations.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed planning your honeymoon, don’t worry! That is exactly what I do every day. Make sure to contact me to learn more about working with me.
Please note that I may use the term LGBT friendly honeymoons or gay honeymoon destinations throughout, but this is for search purposes, and I realize that some might prefer LGBTQIA+, etc, but for simplicity’s sake, I have chosen these search terms.
Some of the LGBTQ community may think that not all “honeymoon” destinations will accept them. Unfortunately, this is still true in some parts of the world today.
However, there are many fabulous LGBT friendly honeymoon destinations around the world. Since I am a honeymoon travel agent for warm, tropical destinations, we will primarily focus on LGBTQ honeymoon destinations in the Caribbean and the United States today.
However, please note there are also countries in Europe that are also very friendly to gay couples, including:
- Malta
- Germany
- Iceland
- The Netherlands
- Portugal
- Ireland
- and more
You can choose one that offers nothing but romance. Or you may want lots of thrilling activities and adventures. No matter what your honeymoon dreams are, I can help you plan them and make those dreams come true.
So, let’s get started with some of the LGBT friendly honeymoon destinations you can choose from.
LGBT Friendly Honeymoon Destinations
Here are some of the most LGBT friendly honeymoon destinations, listed in no particular order.
Hawaii
You can honestly visit any of the Hawaiian Islands for a gay-friendly honeymoon. Hawaii is a blend of many different cultures and is generally very accepting of everyone! Plan to care for the ‘aina (land) and its people on your honeymoon, and they will welcome you with the Aloha spirit!
You might ask which Hawaii island is best for honeymoons. Well I have a blog post about that, but let’s go over the islands quickly here.
Make sure that you rent a car in Hawaii, and check out my Hawaii packing list before you go!
The Big Island
On the Big Island, you can get a few thrills at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. A day can be spent hiking through the Thurston Lava Tube or checking out the petroglyph field. Don’t forget about the Halema’uma’u Crater too.
Akaka Falls is perfect for picnics. You won’t want to skip long walks on the black sand beaches. Green sea turtles spend time on those beaches. Take your camera for a few pictures!
Other honeymoon activities on the Big Island include kayaking with dolphins, snorkeling with manta rays, and ziplining through the rainforests. Check out The 7 Best Things to do on the Big Island to learn more.
Bring your camera for them all. You will want to remember this honeymoon forever!
Oahu
On Oahu, you will find many of the same activities. Honolulu offers vibrant nightlife. This is perfect if you want your LGBT friendly honeymoon to include nights out on the town. And yes, Waikiki has several gay bars!
Outdoor adventures in Oahu might include off-roading on the North Shore. Whale watching will get you out on the water and a hike will take you to the top of Diamond Head to see spectacular views of Waikiki.
History is everywhere in Oahu. You can experience some of it at Pearl Harbor and the Iolani Palace.
Before your honeymoon in Oahu is over, you may want to attend a luau or head out for a little rum tasting.
Kauai
Oh, and if you are looking for a laidback LGBT friendly honeymoon destination, Kauai has you covered! You can avoid the touristy scene on this Hawaiian Island.
Days can be spent at your hotel or at the beach. You can choose to go on an adventure at the last minute without much planning. Some of the top activities in Kauai include helicopter tours, since only 10% of the island is accessible by car! You may also enjoy kayaking the Wailua River or attending a luau.
Maui
Maui is an exceptional choice for an LGBT honeymoon destination, offering a blend of natural beauty, inclusivity, and vibrant culture that sets the stage for an unforgettable romantic getaway.
Its stunning landscapes, from lush rainforests to pristine beaches and volcanic craters, offer a picturesque backdrop for intimate moments. Maui’s progressive attitude and diverse community ensure that same-sex couples can enjoy a range of activities, from beachfront weddings to exploring the island’s vibrant nightlife and delicious cuisine together.
With a plethora of luxurious resorts and boutique accommodations to choose from, Maui beckons as a perfect destination to celebrate love, create cherished memories, and embrace the spirit of aloha.
Some of my top recommendations for things to do in Maui include driving the Road to Hana, snorkeling Molokini Crater, and attending a luau.

The Caribbean
I am going to start out by saying that I love it when people can honeymoon in the Caribbean. I mean, who can resist the sunshine, gorgeous weather, and the opportunity to relax on a sandy beach whenever they want?!
However, I must say that not every Caribbean destination is LGBT friendly. In fact, the Caribbean is generally not a gay-friendly destination except for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, along with a few others.
That means you won’t find the gay-friendly honeymoon destinations you are searching for throughout the entire Caribbean.
With that being said, the islands are getting better. And staying at a Sandals Resort ensures you will have the LGBT friendly honeymoon experience you want.
LGBTQ Honeymoons in the Caribbean
One gay-friendly honeymoon destination in the Caribbean is St. Barts. If you want adventure on your honeymoon, then a hike to St. Colombier should be at the top of your list.
I also recommend making time to watch the sunset from Fort Karl. Talk about taking romance to the next level!
Days at the beach can include relaxing on the sand. Or you can participate in all the water sports. This island is known for its kitesurfing, paddleboarding, snorkeling, and diving.
Don’t wear yourself out during the day; the vibrant nightlife is worth staying up past your bedtime.
St. Martin and St. Maarten are two other gay-friendly honeymoon destinations in the Caribbean. Many people think these are the same destination, but they are not.
St. Martin is on the French side of the island and is found on the northern end. St. Maarten is on the Dutch side and is on the southern end of the island.
A honeymoon in these destinations can include hiking through Pid du Paradis or shopping on Front Street.
These are definitely beach-lover destinations. That shouldn’t be a problem if the beach is at the top of your list for your honeymoon.
Two other welcoming Caribbean Islands include Curacao and Aruba. They are more open to gay honeymooners spending time on the islands. In fact, they celebrate the fact they are diverse islands and generally accept everyone who visits.
LGBTQ Honeymoons at sandals resorts
There is a Sandals Resort on the island of Curacao. While all the other resorts on the island are gay-friendly, the all-inclusiveness of Sandals Resorts may be the deciding factor when booking your accommodations. Sandals adults-only atmosphere and luxury-included stays ensure that you don’t have to worry about a thing during your honeymoon!
The Caribbean destinations that are likely not LGBT friendly for honeymoons include Antigua, Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts, Nevis, Saint Vincent, Grenadines, Trinidad, and Tobago.
These Caribbean destinations may not be gay friendly, but you will find you are accepted at the Sandals Resorts in Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Antigua, Grenada, and Barbados. The Bahamas are not known for being LGBT friendly, but there are also two Sandals Resorts to choose from there.
Check out Two Amazing Sandals Resorts in the Bahamas to see if either of these resorts is a good fit for you!
So, do not think you must check off a Caribbean Island from your list simply because it is not a gay friendly honeymoon destination as it certainly can be!
Key West, Florida
If you want a truly LGBT friendly honeymoon destination, Key West should be at the top of your list!
Key West is eclectic and full of amazing honeymoon activities, adventures, and downtime options.
Trolley tours are popular in this southern city. There is no better way to learn the history and culture while seeing the sights. And you have quite a few trolley tour options when you are honeymooning in Key West.
There are the basic one-hour or one or two-day trolley tours. Then there is the Ghosts and Gravestones tour. A one or two-day Conch Train tour might be on your list of things to do.
However, there is a new Gay Key West Trolley tour. This unique tour features the LGBT history and sites of the area.
Another thing you can do in this gay-friendly honeymoon destination is grab a honeymoon picture at the Southernmost Point. You can also take an eco-tour of the mangroves, walk along Duval Street, or visit Ernest Hemingway’s home.
Eating key lime pie is a must when in Key West, as is catching the sun setting at Mallory Square. On my other blog, Florida Travel with Kids, I have plenty of tips for things to do in Key West, including:
