Reasons to honeymoon in Hawaii
I realize that it might seem a little biased for me, a Hawaii Travel Agent, to recommend a honeymoon in Hawaii. Hear me out anyway, Hawaii is one of the top honeymoon destinations in the world, and with good reason. Here are 10 reasons to honeymoon in Hawaii.
1. Planning a wedding is stressful
I was in the wedding industry for 10 years before becoming a Travel Professional. Now, as a Hawaii Travel Agent, about 90% of my clients are going on honeymoons or anniversary trips.
So trust me when I saw I know that planning a wedding is stressful. Hawaii is the perfect place to relax. There has been a lot in the news about dangers at popular honeymoon destinations. Fortunately, Hawaii is very safe, likely safer than wherever you live.
Not only is it safe, but Hawaii is also just so relaxing. Hawaii has a fantastic vibe (whether you believe that kind of thing or not, it’s there), and the locals are so friendly. Tourism is the #1 industry in Hawaii, so you’ll find amazing 5-star resorts, fantastic spas, and so much more.
You might also enjoy reading the best island in Hawaii for a honeymoon.
2. #1 Romance Destination
The Hawaiian Islands, and Maui in particular, are one of the top romantic destinations in the world. From private helicopter tours to romantic sunset dinners on the beach, to couples massages at a 5-star resort. There are many chances for romantic moments in Hawaii.
3. US Residents Will Not Require A Passport
If you’re from the US, you don’t have to have a passport to fly to Hawaii. And yes, I get asked that all the time. Check out my Hawaii FAQ for some other interesting questions. The fact that you don’t need to have a passport makes Hawaii a convenient destination for travelers from the mainland.
4. The Weather
As a Hawaii Travel Agent, I am asked all.the.time. about the weather in Hawaii. Here’s the thing, it’s almost always beautiful. While there is still the possibility of bad weather, it’s very, very, low. Maybe you’ve heard that it rains a lot in Hawaii.
Well, I’m here to tell you that the resorts are not in the locations where it rains a lot. In most cases, the resort areas on the island are dry and sunny year-round.
4b. The SUNSETS!
Do I need to say anything else?
5. The Landscape
You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful honeymoon destination than Hawaii. Combined with the safety, the fantastic weather, and the number of things to do, the landscape is one of the reasons to honeymoon in Hawaii.
6. The Water Activities
If you love water activities, Hawaii is going to be a paradise for you. From surfing to kayaking to snorkeling and sailing, Hawaii has too many water activities to mention.
7. The Other Outdoor Activities
Even if you don’t like water activities, there are plenty of other activities that you’ll enjoy. Hawaii has some of the best hikes in the world, ziplines over rainforests, biking adventures, and more. Hawaii is the perfect destination for couples who love the outdoors.
8. The Cultural Activities
Do you see a theme that the number of activities is a great reason to honeymoon in Hawaii? I always recommend learning about the history and culture of Hawaii before you visit. Fortunately, there are also plenty of cultural activities in Hawaii that you can enjoy during your honeymoon.
The first thing that comes to mind might be attending a luau, but there is so much more than that. I do have a post about the best luau in Hawaii, so make sure to check that out.
You can explore ancient Hawaiian villages, learn more at the Polynesian Cultural Center, or even take a historical cruise of Kealakekua Bay. You don’t have to learn everything about Hawaii before you visit, but take some time to read a book or two before you leave. Pro Tip: Reading is a great way to kill time on that long airplane ride! I recommend “The Great Book of Hawaii.” You can also get a free Audible trial and listen to the book, or a free Kindle Unlimited trial to read it on a Kindle.

9. The Beach
Would this post about the best reasons to honeymoon in Hawaii be complete without talking about beaches? Of course, Hawaii has beautiful “regular” beaches, but it is also home to incredible black, red, and even green sand beaches. Some of the best beaches in Hawaii are:
- Lanikai Beach on Oahu.
- Kaanapali Beach on Maui.
- Hapuna Beach on the Big Island.
- Makena Beach (Big Beach and Little Beach) on Maui.
- Hanalei Bay on Kauai.
- Papakolea Beach (Green Sand Beach) on the Big Island.
- Makua Beach (Tunnels Beach) on Kauai.
- Polihale State Park on Kauai.
- Polihua Beach on Lanai.
10. The Aloha Spirit
I touched on this in #1, but it’s worth mentioning again. The Aloha Spirit you’ll experience in Hawaii is one of the best reasons to honeymoon in Hawaii. The Aloha Spirit, to put it as simply as possible, is a way of treating each other with love and respect.
I find that the way you feel in Hawaii is different than anywhere else. That alone makes it an incredible honeymoon destination. Add the beaches, activities, resorts, culture, and you have the perfect place to spend your honeymoon.
